Reviving Lost Landscapes To Protect Life On Earth

Restoring natural balance through rewilding, strategy, and care

In the remote Velebit Mountains of Croatia, wild horses roam free once again. In Portugal’s Côa Valley, natural grazing herds are helping restore lost biodiversity. These are just two of the 11 landscapes where Rewilding Europe is working to bring nature back at scale. Their mission is to show that rewilding is not just about conservation, but about creating resilient ecosystems and supporting local communities in the process.

Rewilding Europe is building a future where wild nature plays a much stronger role in shaping Europe’s land and seascapes. To do this, they need more than vision and ecological expertise. Expanding their work requires strong, strategic partnerships — especially with businesses that share a long-term commitment to sustainability.

We’re thrilled with the insights and strategies from Oliver Wyman. This project has helped us define a clear corporate partnership approach and sparked real momentum to proactively connect with potential partners

Over a 10-week collaboration, our team in Amsterdam worked with Rewilding Europe to strengthen their corporate partnership and engagement strategy. We began by conducting a market scan to understand how other environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) approach corporate collaboration. Through peer benchmarking, we identified what works, what doesn’t, and where Rewilding Europe had the opportunity to lead. We spoke to NGOs and internal teams to understand expectations and realities from both sides.

It has been inspiring to work with Rewilding Europe on their corporate engagement strategy. I’m excited to see how our strategic recommendations will help them broaden their reach into the corporate world to accelerate action for nature

Our findings helped shape a new approach to partnerships. Based on our analysis and a thorough review of potential corporate partners, we developed recommendations concerning partner prioritization, suggested streamlining the partner due diligence process to make it more efficient and data-based, and identified the most promising engagement opportunities. Our collaboration delivered a strategy grounded in best practices and internal insights. We also achieved immediate impact by initiating conversations with potential partners and creating new collaboration opportunities.

By the end of the project, Rewilding Europe had a clearer and more focused path to building long-term partnerships that go beyond funding. With these tools in hand, the people dedicated to restoring ecosystems and revitalizing landscapes are better placed to grow their impact and bring more companies into the rewilding movement.

Working with Rewilding Europe has been a truly enriching experience that has allowed me to contribute in a meaningful way. I’ve learned a lot about the challenges NGOs face to attract and engage with corporates, and I am excited about the positive impact we are making together
